Removing the diodes makes the pedal much louder but also you're getting all the character of the op amp, for a more open and dynamic sound. A far cry from the compressed clipping of the stock diodes, but the 4 different combinations this affords you allows for a wide variety of sounds.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eInternally the Envy features a socketed RC4558P chip, one of the iconic chips we've read about in so many forums and product listings.
